School History

I, Lorie Shinn (Director and Teacher) had been a kindergarten teacher for five years when the Lord blessed us with a baby girl in 2004.  I desperately wanted to stay at home with her, but was not able to and return to teaching.   I taught for two more years, praying all the time for the Lord to provide a way for me to stay at home with my child.

In January of 2006, I felt the Lord laid it on my heart to open up an in-home daycare and preschool.  This way, I could stay at home with my baby girl and still be able to teach, having the best of both worlds.  In my research, I learned that there are three different kinds of in-home daycare available to parents: Listed, Registered and Licensed.   The latter, Licensed, being the most frequently inspected and having the highest state expectations.

I knew from the beginning, I wanted our school to be exceptional in every way: christian childcare, curriculum and extra-curricular activities; not only because I demanded high standards for myself and my school.  But because, the school was going to belong to the Lord and I wanted it to represent Him in everything we would do from caregiving to teaching to providing the Christian building blocks for a lifetime of success for our students.  Therefore, I started the process of getting my Director's License to be the Administrator for a "Licensed" in-home childcare.

On June 7th, 2006, we were inspected by the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services/Child Care Licensing Division (www.dfps.state.tx.us).  We were approved and issued a permit to operate as a Licensed in-home childcare.  We began our first year of school at our residence on 2059 W. Lotus Ave in Fort Worth.  We enjoyed two fun filled years at this location.  On June 25th, 2008, we moved our school and residence to 2112 Fairview St. in Fort Worth.  Again, we were inspected and issued a permit to operate as a licensed in-home childcare.  The In-Home Christian Academy and Daycare is a Licensed in-home christian childcare; which means, we receive regular inspections by the Child Care Licensing Division and the USDA Food Program.  This gives parents peace of mind that their child is receiving exceptional christian childcare 100% of the time that they are in our care.  You may view the records of past inspections of our school at www.dfps.state.tx.us.  At this location, we have enjoyed another two years and we are beginning our fifth school year 2010 - 2011.

We are open year round.  We offer two different enrollment periods: our school operates on the FWISD School Year Calendar, from mid-August thru the first week of June.  During the school year, we use Mother Goose Time Academic Curriculum and Funshine Express Christian Curriculum for all ages, as well as, age appropriate Field Trips and Enrichment Programs such as: Cooking for Kids, Gymnastics, Ballet, Spanish, Computer, Seasonal Gardening, Library, Art and Music.  During the summer (mid-June thru mid-August), we have lots of fun!  Each day of the week offers a fun activity such as: Library Day, Art Day for Kids Program at the Amon Carter Art Museum, Splash/Popsicle Day, Field Trip Day and Park Day.  In addition, we have Christian Curriculum and do a review of Alphabet Letters, Colors, Numbers and Shapes throughout the summer.
